SAIT RADLab: Livestock tracking project

RADLab researchers at SAIT Polytechnic’s Applied Research and Innovation Services department have developed a new system for reading and tracking livestock.

This high-tech solution has been successfully field-tested, and the Canadian Cattle Agency and Canadian Food Inspection Agency are evaluating the implementation of the system.

The RADLab worked with industry partners across the food chain to develop the system, which uses ultra-high frequency (UHF) radio frequency identification (RFID) tags and readers to increase efficiencies and accuracy for animal traceability, and decrease animal stress.
