Radio Frequency Identification or RFID is comprised of tags, readers and software and allows people easier access to things like parking lots, places within buildings, hotel rooms and yes, even amusement parks.
Take the large parks in Florida. They, like other parks throughout the country see millions of people a year come through the gates. How do they deal with the onslaught of bodies that need to be ticketed, have to go through security and will want to stay, eat, purchase and attend shows within the park? Easy, they turn to RFID.
When a customer buys a ticket they can be given a bracelet or key card that they will then keep with them throughout their stay. This ‘tag’ contains all the information necessary, it allows them to get into their rooms with just a swipe, it allows them to get into the park itself with just a swipe and it can even be programmed so that they can purchase food and/or souvenirs all with the bracelet or key card.
Some parks go one step further and couple the card or bracelet with a fingerprint. At each entrance the guest will hold their card to the reader while placing their finger or thumb on another part of the reader, forever linking them to that specific card. This prevents fraud, transfer of tickets and keeps every guest honest as the cards will only be valid for as long as they were paid for, whether that is one day or ten.
RFID is a simple to use system that allows easy access or control of access depending on a business’ needs. When you are talking amusement parks, the main focus is on the guest having fun. They should be allowed easy access that doesn’t take time away from their day at the park. They should also only be allowed access to guest friendly places, as the staff at the park will be given keyed cards or bracelets specific to them. With readers at the entrance and throughout the park, easy to use software and the tags themselves, amusement parks around the country and the world are finding an easier way to achieve the movement of guests throughout their properties.
When your chief mission is making the public happy, nothing is better than giving them fast and easy access to where they want to be. Being able to do everything on one card or bracelet makes it less of a hassle and puts the emphasis back on family fun!
