CONTACTLESS TRANSIT CARD TEARDOWN

I was given a used single-use transit card which allowed the user to “tap in” to board a bus. Given that it was meant to be used only once suggested some serious cost constraints on the design.

Teardown time!

It looks like a piece of paper where the antenna was pad-printed or silk screened on using conductive ink. A small integrated circuit from NXP was then applied.

Near as I can tell the card is from Russia.
